Subluxation

Subluxation is a term used in the chiropractic field to describe what happens when one of the vertebrae in your spine moves out of position. Subluxation is a result of the spine in which alignment, movement integrity and physiological functions are compromised due to functional, structural, and/or pathological articular changes. Chiropractic adjustments can correct subluxation and restore misaligned vertebrae into proper positions.

There are quite a few symptoms that can signal that you’re suffering from subluxation of the spine. Some of these include:

  • Dizziness or balance problems
  • Reduced range of motion or spinal mobility
  • Spinal muscle tightness, weakness or spasms
  • Pain, numbness or tingling sensation in the extremities
  • Joint pain, soreness or tenderness

The causes of Subluxation can be summarized into 3 T’s:

  • Trauma – due to physical impact and this can occur while playing sports or while sleeping in a bad position.
  • Toxins – due to poor diet because chemicals can throw your internal balance off and cause the muscles to contract.
  • Thoughts (stress) – stressful thoughts can cause tension in your body, often in your neck and upper back. (This is conisdered to be the number one cause of subluxation).

Chiropractic adjustments involve the application of a quick but gentle corrective force into the “subluxated” spinal vertebrae. The adjustment can be delivered manually through the hands or can be applied through the use of a specialized tool.

Subluxations generally require multiple treatments or adjustments for complete normalization to occur. Similar to straightening teeth, correcting malfunctioning and misaligned vertebrae requires time for the tissues to accept this new position as “normal.”
